She was kicked out at 14. She slept in cemeteries among headstones. She built snow caves against fences to survive Vermont winters. The systems meant to protect her failed. And the consequences follow her still.

“I’m scared of the dark,” she says. “Still. Even now.”

But Heidi’s story doesn’t end there. She built a family. She became the mother she deserved to have. Her children know they are loved, fed, safe, and welcome.
